In this four-part workshop series, Clayton will present foundational aspects of breath, movement and attention which are central to Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. Clayton will break down the ‘jump back and jump through’ transitions as well as giving modifications for the more challenging postures of the Primary Series. Back bending and finishing postures will be explained in detail. A Question and Answer Session will follow the evening sessions. This workshop will be beneficial to both new and experienced students who wish to know more about Ashtanga Yoga.Taught in English with Mandarin interpretation. |

Session I: 25 April (Sat): 10:30am – 1:00pm FOUNDATIONS OF ASHTANGA In this workshop, we will explore the fundamentals and details of correct breathing, sun salutations and all of the standing poses. Examples and tools for working on the jump back and jump through of the Ashtanga Vinyasa breath movement system will be covered in detail. Opening and closing mantras will be explained and chanted together with guided relaxation at the end.Session II: 25 April (Sat): 2:00pm – 4:30pm PRIMARY SERIES PART ONE In this session we will explore the fundamentals of breath, sun salutations, drishti (gazing points) and we will break down in detail the first half of the primary series and the finishing postures. Foundations of technique and alignment will be discussed; modifications will be addressed where necessary.KIRTAN DEVOTIONAL CHANTING 18:00, FREESession III: 26 April (Sun): 10:30am – 1:00pm PRIMARY SEIRES PART TWO This morning session begins with some breathwork (pranayama) and a guided meditation, followed by a full primary series led class, focusing on details of the Second Half of the primary series. Technique and alignment of postures will be refined, allowing for efficiency of muscular force, correct breathing, and an increase in the flow of prana, our subtle, vital energy.Session IV: 26 April (Sun): 2:00pm – 4:30pm TAKING IT FURTHER This last session will focus on a review of essential elements of Ashtanga yoga such as breath movement efficiency and injury prevention with accent on back bending and an introduction to some of the accessible poses of the Intermediate (2nd) Series. Mysore Style Ashtanga will be explained and explored. The session will end with a restorative and refreshing Yoga Nidra session and short Kirtan. |
